School leave and absence
Arriving on Time
We believe it is important for everyone to arrive on time so that the lessons can begin smoothly. It is nice for all children to be there on time. At Europaschool, our doors open at 8:15 AM. Our lessons start at 8:30 AM. We expect all our students to be in class by then after saying goodbye to their parents. At that moment, the front door also closes, allowing for a calm start to the school day.
Children arriving after 8:30 AM must ring the bell; parents can no longer accompany them to class.
The administration records late arrivals in a digital system and keeps track of them daily. If a student is frequently late, we will contact the parents to work together on improvement. However, if this pattern continues, we are required to report it to the attendance officer, who may invite parents for a meeting to discuss the matter further. Our shared goal is to give every student the best possible start, and therefore it is crucial that everyone is present on time to begin the day well.
Illness/Absence of student
When a student feels unwell, parents can easily report the illness via Parro or by phone. Our administrative staff ensures that this message reaches the appropriate teacher immediately. Illness is tracked weekly in a digital system.
If children are frequently ill, a conversation will be held with the parents. If no improvement occurs, contact will be made with the attendance officer. A solution will then be sought in consultation. It may be the case that a student receives digital learning materials to work with at home.
If a student is ill for an extended period, a different process is initiated, and efforts are made to find a way for the student to follow as much of the lessons as possible.
Requesting Extra Leave
Specific rules apply for requesting extra holiday leave or leave for significant circumstances. In short, these rules state that extra leave is generally not granted unless certain conditions are met. The rules and agreements can be found on the website of the municipality of Amsterdam: https://www.amsterdam.nl/onderwijs-jeugd/leerplicht/
Brochures with this information are also available at the school administration.
Application forms for extra leave can be obtained from the administration. The rules are summarized on these forms as well.
The school is regularly checked for compliance with these rules.
