Physical education

The Europaschool has a teacher for physical education. This teacher conducts gym class twice a week for all students, except for the preschoolers. The lessons focus not only on the development of physical skills but also on social skills that can be particularly trained during physical education classes, such as sportsmanship, exploring boundaries, dealing with winning and losing, and being considerate of others.

Classes for preschoolers are taught twice a week by the classroom teacher. This takes place in a small playroom in the school's building. The lessons for groups 3 to 5 are held in the large gym hall of the Geert Grote School on the other side of the Hygiƫaplein. Classes for groups 6 to 8 take place in the gymnasium of the Basisschool Het Museumkwartier. To allow the children to engage in more outdoor sports, we regularly make use of the fields at the Olympiaplein.

We have an annual sports day.

Clothing

We want students to have separate clothing for gym and sports. This clothing should consist of a t-shirt, shorts or long training pants, and shoes that are not worn outside. We emphasize this primarily for hygiene and safety reasons. It is uncomfortable for students and classmates to sit in class with a sweaty shirt. Shoes are very important as they provide more grip, protection, and help prevent foot conditions in the gym hall. If students forget their gym clothes, they may still participate in the lesson, but they must do so in 'regular' clothes and bare feet.

Students from group 3 gym in the gym hall of the Geert Grooteschool or the gym hall of the Schreuderschool. Appropriate gym clothing and gym shoes are mandatory. Without gym clothing, a child may not participate in the gym lesson due to hygiene and safety concerns.

The gym clothes of the preschoolers are taken home every Friday. For all other groups, gym clothes are only brought to school on the days when there are gym classes, which are Wednesday and Friday. At the end of the day, these clothes go back home."
